
- The Paediatric Tracheostomy Care and Management Workshop is designed to provide learners with the underpinning concepts of post operative care and management of paediatric/neonatal patients who have undergone tracheostomy. It will develop the participant’s knowledge and understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system; indications/complications of tracheostomy; and types of tracheostomy tubes used for certain age groups. It will also enhance skills in performing tracheal suctioning; changing tracheostomy tapes and stoma care. Learners will be able to demonstrate the use of the emergency equipment needed for a tracheostomy accidental decannulation and perform emergency algorithm for tracheostomy on a training manakin.
Aims of the workshop:
- To explore concepts of contemporary Paediatric Tracheostomy indications, complications , care and management theory in order to develop your knowledge within a multi- professional health and social care setting
- Contribute to and manage a high performance and effective skills in management of Paediatric Tracheostomy suctioning, changing tapes and stoma care
- Develop your ability to link theories with practice through critical skills assessment and clinical competencies
- Confidently challenge current health and social care practices, and use appropriate evidence to articulate your views
